Reflections on Set Theoretic Reflection

This conference will gather together prominent set-theorists from all over the world to present recent important advances in the context of set-theoretic reflections and its surrounding themes; to discuss current and future applications of such set-theoretic methods in other mathematical disciplines; and to explore strategies for a proper and effective dissemination of the relevant set-theoretic developments to the wider mathematical community.  The conference will also celebrate the 60th birthday of Joan Bagaria, whose work has substantially advanced and expanded both the theoretical apparatus and the applicability of the set-theoretic concept of reflection in other areas of mathematics.

K-theory Conference

The 2018 meeting of this quadrennial conference, organized by the K-theory foundation, will consist of a school and workshop.  The school, targeted at advanced diploma students, graduate students, and postdocs, will take place at the University  of La Plata from July 11-20.  The workshop will follow at the Uiversity of Buenos Aires from July 23 to 27. The entire event is an official ICM2018 satellite.

Arithmetic and Algebraic Geometry

British Mathematical Colloquium 2018

The British Mathematical Colloquium has been the major general meeting for the pure mathematics community in the UK since 1949.  The 2018 meeting, at the University of St. Andrews, will consist of a mixture of plenary lectures, morning parallel lectures, a public lecture, and a collection of affiliated workshops.

New Methods in Finsler Geometry

In the last decade many natural and named problems in Finsler geometry were solved by mathematicians who do not consider Finsler geometry their main subject.  Typically, these people work in Riemannian geometry, in the theory of dynamical systems including integrable systems and symplectic geometry, in the theory of PDE, or in metric (Alexandrov) geometry.  The aim of this conference is to bring together these people, as well as experts in the Finsler geometry, to exchange ideas and combine methods in studying other problems in Finsler geometry.

Mathematics and Science: in Honour of Sir John Ball

A conference has been organized in celebration of Professor Sir John Ball’s 70th birthday and in honour of his impressive mathematical contributions. The conference will provide a unique opportunity for researchers and current PhD students to learn about recent exciting developments in some of the areas most associated with John Ball’s name and most influenced by his work, both in the UK and internationally.

The Conference will focus on three aspects of John Ball’s research interests:

  • Analysis of Nonlinear PDEs – speakers include Constantine M Dafermos, Pierre-Louis Lions, Laure Saint-Raymond, Vladimir Sverak, and Neil Trudinger. In addition there will be a public lecture by Sir Michael Atiyah.
  • General Aspects of Mathematical Research – speakers include Ingrid Daubechies, Maria Esteban, Martin Grötschel, Tadeusz Iwaniec, and Peter Sarnak with a joint colloquium lecture by Shigefumi Mori.
  • Calculus of Variations, Liquid Crystals and Materials Science – speakers include Duvan A. Henao Manrique, Tomonari Inamura, Barbara Niethammer, and Arghir Zarnescu with a Distinguished ARMA Lecture by Fanghua Lin.

Geometry and Analysis: Celebrating the Mathematics of Pierre Pansu

This conference will review key mainstream directions in the recent development of geometry which sprang from Riemannian Geometry in an attempt to use its methods in various contexts of non-smooth geometry.  This concerns recent developments in sub-Riemannian geometry, metric generalizations of the theory of non-positively curved spaces and discretizations of methods in geometry, geometric measure theory and global analysis.  All these themes are intertwined and have developed either together or greatly influencing one another.  The conference will focus on the synergy of these very modern areas, and chart the latest developments and the remaining open problems.

Quantum Structures in Algebra and Geometry

This conference will cover a broad range of topics related to quantum groups, quantizaitons of syplectic singularities, enumerative geometyr, special functions, and connextions of these subjects to physics.  The conference will review exciting recent developments in these closely related subjects and will facilitate investigation of further interactions.
