Quantum Structures in Algebra and Geometry

This conference will cover a broad range of topics related to quantum groups, quantizaitons of syplectic singularities, enumerative geometyr, special functions, and connextions of these subjects to physics.  The conference will review exciting recent developments in these closely related subjects and will facilitate investigation of further interactions.

British Combinatorial Conference 2019

This biennial meeting covers research in all areas of combinatorics and its applications.  The conference series has been running since 1969 and is the focal event in the UK Combinatorics calendar.

Arithmetic Geometry in Carthage

This two week program on arithmetic geometry will focus on a number of areas of important progress over the past three or four years:  p-adic Hodge theory, p-adic Langland program, ramification of étale l-adic sheaves, special values of L functions and automorphic and motivic periods, and conjectures of Deligne, Beilinson, and Gan-Gross-Prasad.  The first week will be devoted to a summer school and the second to a conference.

Dynamics of Group Actions

This conference will bring together exceptional senior researchers and talented young researchers in dynamics of group actions on the occasion of Yves Benoit’s 60th birthday.  Benoist has made several ground-breaking contributions to the topic and his influence is remarkable.  The conferece will be a unique opportunity for discussion, to present new and important works, and to give a new impetus to research in the field.  

Professor Elon Lindenstrauss will give the Clay Lecture at this event.

British Mathematical Colloquium 2019

The 71st British Mathematical Colloquium will provide an invaluable opportunity for mathematicians from across the spectrum of pure mathematics to meet, hear about new developments from international experts in both proximate and more distant areas, and to discuss their work with each other.  The BMC also serves an important role in giving PhD students an overview of UK-wide pure mathematical activity.  The Colloquium will offer longer plenary talks and pairs of parallel talks in the mornings and specialised workshops with shorter talks in afternoons.  There will also be a public lecture.

Integrability and Randomness in Mathematical Physics and Geometry

The past decade has seen rapid developments in various areas of mathematics related to integrability and randomness. This conference will include contributions from researchers working in determinantal point processes, ensembles and discrete generalizations, integrable probability theory, random matrix theory, including invariant ensembles and banded random matrices, non-linear dynamical systems with randomness (particularly random initial data), and applications of topological expansions and loop equations.

These subjects employ an extremely wide variety of dierent methods, and the organizers anticipate a useful exchange of ideas and the creation of new exciting mathematics from this gathering. The conference includes not only internationally renowned leading experts, but also a large collection of early career mathematicians, which will promote research in this area of science in future generations. For PhD students, the conference will also serve as an entry point into professional networks.

Tropical Geometry, Berkovich Spaces, Arithmetic D-modules and p-adic local systems

The theory of Berkovich spaces is a powerful and elegant approach to analytic geometry over non-archimedean fields. Over the past decade it has found many striking applications in areas such as arithmetic geometry, p-adic differential equations, and dynamics. Running through many of these recent developments is the thread of tropical geometry. In some cases the tropical link is already firmly established, while in others it is not yet more than a promising hint. There is now an exciting potential to forefront the role of tropical geometry while exploring the application of Berkovich theory in the intersecting areas of arithmetic D-modules and non- archimedean representation theories.  This conference will bring together leading experts in each of these areas in order to energize this vision and establish appropriate links.

String Math 2020

The String Math series of conferences have become an important event for anyone working at the interface between mathematics and theoretical physics (string theory, quantum field theory and adjacent topics), bringing together an interdisciplinary cohort of pure mathematicians and theoretical physicists.  In 2020, String Math comes to South Africa. Hosted jointly by the Universities of Stellenbosch and Cape Town from June 22-26, it will be held in the historic town of Stellenbosch in the heart of South Africa’s wine country.

International Colloquium on Arithmetic Geometry

Held every four years since 1956, the International Colloquium is a flagship programme of the Tata Institute. The objectives of the Colloquia are to disseminate the latest research findings of experts to other mathematicians, to provide a platform for Indian researchers to make known their research to the international research community, and to encourage and facilitate discussions between experts in each of the topics, as well as other participants, with a view to fostering collaborative research.  The topic of the 2020 Colloquium will be Arithmetic Geometry, which has seen several striking and significant developments of late and covers a wide spectrum of mathematics, ranging over automorphic forms, representation theory, algebraic geometry and number theory.

Faces of Singularity Theory

This conference is part of the Chaire Jean-Morlet Semester Singularity Theory from Modern Perspectives.  While the other events of the semester are focusing on the research project that the organisers plan to carry out, this conference intends to open the thematic spectrum within singularity theory, and explore possible interactions within different approaches.

The topics envisaged are:

  • connections with Minimal Model Program
  • resolution of Singularities
  • motivic Integration
  • Milnor fibration and related topics
  • Lipschitz geometry
  • non-archimedean, tropical and log-geometry of singularities
  • topology of singularities with connections to Floer theories connections of singularity theory with combinatorics
  • connections of singularity theory with Mirror symmetry ideas.

While the connections are wide, the main unifying factor are the singularity theory methods.

Representations of Quivers: Theory and Applications – a Celebration of the 60th Birthday of Bill Crawley-Boevey

The respresentation theory of quivers has developed through a strong interaction of general theory and the investigation of examples.  Bill Crawley-Boevey has had a major influence of the field, his work exemplifying this interaction as well as the entwining of finite- and infinte-dimensional represention theory.  Now quivers and their representations appear in many parts of mathematics, in physics, and in an increading variety of applications.
