New SAB Members

Two new members will be joining the CMI’s Scientific Advisory Board in January in succession to Richard Melrose and Yum-Tong Siu.
Michael J Hopkins ( above left)is a professor in the Mathematics Department at Harvard University, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is well known for his ground-breaking work in algebraic topology. He was an invited speaker at the ICM in Zurich in 1994 and a plenary speaker in Beijing in 2002, won the Oswald Veblen Prize in Geometry in 2011, the NAS Award in Mathematics for his work on homotopy theory in 2012, and the Nemmers Prize in 2014.
Carlos E Kenig (above right)is the Louis Block Distinguished Service Professor at the University of Chicago. His work on Fourier analysis, partial differential equations and nonlinear dispersive partial differential equations was recognised by the award of the 2008 Maxime Bôcher Memorial Prize. He spoke at the ICMs at Berkeley (1986) and Beijing (2002), and gave a plenary lecture in 2010 at the ICM in Hyderabad. He is also a member of the National Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
