James Maynard

James Maynard received his PhD in 2013 from the University of Oxford under the supervision of Roger Heath-Brown and is currently a Fellow by Examination at Magdalen College, Oxford. James is primarily interested in classical number theory, in particular the distribution of prime numbers. His research focuses on using tools from analytic number theory, particularly sieve methods, to study primes. James has been appointed as a Clay Research Fellow for a term of three years beginning 1 July 2015.

Davesh Maulik

Davesh Maulik received his PhD in 2007  from Princeton University under the supervision of Rahul Pandharipande.  His mathematical interests include algebraic geometry and its connections with symplectic geometry, mathematical physics, and combinatorics.  His research focus is in the area of Gromov-Witten theory and enumerative geometry.  Davesh was appointed as a Clay Research Fellow for a term of five years beginning July 2007.

Ciprian Manolescu

Ciprian Manolescu received his PhD from Harvard University under the supervision of Peter B. Kronheimer. In his thesis he gave a remarkable gluing formula for the Bauer-Furuta invariants of four-manifolds. His research interests span the areas of gauge theory, low-dimensional topology, symplectic geometry, and algebraic topology.  Ciprian was appointed as a Clay Reearch Fellow for a term of four years beginning 2004.

Bo’az Klartag

Bo’az Klartag received his PhD from Tel Aviv University in 2004 under the supervision of Vitali Milman. In his thesis Klartag showed that a small number of Minkowski and Steiner symmetrizations suffice to bring a convex body in n-space close to a Euclidean ball.  His research interests include geometric problems in high dimension, in particular asymptotic convex geometry.  Bo’az was appointed as a Clay Research Fellow for a term of three years beginning September 2005.

Aleksandr Logunov

Aleksandr Logunov gained his PhD in 2015 under the supervision of Viktor Havin at the Chebyshev Laboratory, St Petersburg State University. After two years as a postdoctoral fellow at Tel-Aviv University, he moved to the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton. He held his Clay Research Fellowship at Princeton University.

Together with Eugenia Malinnikova, he was given a Clay Research Award in 2017. The award recognised Logunov’s and Malinnikova’s introduction of a novel geometric combinatorial method to study doubling properties of solutions to elliptic eigenvalue problems. This led to the solution of long-standing problems in spectral geometry, for instance the optimal lower bound on the measure of the nodal set of an eigenfunction of the Laplace-Beltrami operator in a compact smooth manifold (Yau and Nadirashvili’s conjectures).

Aleksandr was invited to speak on his work at the 2018 International Congress of Mathematicians in Rio.  He was appointed as a Clay Research Fellow for a term of two years beginning 1 July 2018.

Elon Lindenstrauss

Elon Lindenstrauss received his PhD in 1999 from the Hebrew University under the supervision of Benjamin Weiss.  His research focuses on the interface between dynamics and other fields, in particular number theory.  Using ergodic theoretic and other techniques, he studied the problem of Arithmetic Quantum Unique Ergodicity, a problem at the interface between the theory of automorphic forms and mathematical physics.  Elon was appointed as a Clay Research Fellow for a term of two years from September 2003.

Adrian Ioana

Adrian Ioana was born in Romania (1981), he received his B.S. from Unversity of Bucharest and his PhD in 2007 from UCLA under the direction of Professor Sorin Popa. His research interests are von Neumann algebras and orbit equivalence. Adrian, together with  Jesse Peterson and Sorin Popa, have proved the existence of a II_1 factor with trivial outer automorphism group.  He also showed that any countable group which contains a free subgroup has uncountably many non orbit equivalent actions.  Adrian was appointed as a Clay Research Fellow for a term of three years beginning August 2008.

June Huh

June Huh received his PhD in 2014 from the University of Michigan under the supervision of Mircea Mustaţă. He applies algebraic geometry and singularity theory to problems in combinatorics and other areas. His recent interests include singularities of projective hypersurfaces, positivity of Chern classes of Schubert varieties, and connections between realizability problems in algebraic geometry and combinatorial geometry. June was appointed as a Clay Research Fellow for a term of five years beginning 1 July 2014.

Peter Hintz

Peter Hintz studies hyperbolic partial differential equations arising in general relativity using methods from microlocal analysis, spectral and scattering theory, and dynamical systems. His recent work concerns the stability of black holes in expanding spacetimes. Born in Kassel, Germany, Peter received a BSc in Mathematics and BSc in Physics from the University of Gottingen in 2011 and a PhD in 2015 from Stanford University under the supervision of András Vasy. Peter is a Miller Research Fellow (2015-2017) at the UC Berkeley, mentored by Maciej Zworski.

Peter was appointed as a Clay Research Fellow for a term of three years beginning 1 July 2017.

Sergei Gukov

Sergei Gukov received his PhD from Princeton University in 2001 under the supervision of Edward Witten.  Motivated by phenomenological applications, he works on understanding string compactifications on manifolds of reduced holonomy, such as Calabi-Yau four-folds.  Sergei was appointed as a Clay Research Fellow for a term of five years beginning 2001.

Ben Green

Ben Green received his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2003 under the supervision of Tim Gowers.  Ben was appointed as a Clay Research Fellow for a term of two years beginning July 2005.

The 2004 Clay Research Award was made to Ben for his joint work with Terry Tao on arithmetic progressions of prime numbers.

Daniel Gottesman

Daniel Gottesman received his PhD from the California Institute of Technology in 1997 under the supervision of John Preskill.  Daniel started off working on black hole evaporation before becoming interested in quantum computers.  His work focuses on quantum error-correcting codes.  In particular, he studied a class of codes called stabilizer codes and showed that any stabilizer code could be used to perform fault tolerant quantum computation.  Daniel was appointed as a Clay Research Fellow for a term of 20 months beginning January 2001.
